Do you enjoy it?

Most of the time, because it's rewarding but can also be very stressful with long hours and looking after very sick patients

What are good signs that someone might enjoy doing what you do and be good at it?

Being able to stay calm in stressful situations. Be methodical, focused and caring. Need to be a good team player and willing to keep learning.

Did you always know you wanted to do what you do?

Not immediately but was inspired by seeing other doctors during work experience.

What else did you consider doing?

Teaching or physiotherapy.

Any advice for someone who does know they want to do what you do?

Talk to junior doctors doing it now and ask to shadow or arrange work experience in a hospital.

Are there any misconceptions people might have about what it's like to do what you do?

That we just follow orders from consultants without thinking, when actually we're constantly making decisions and managing patients ourselves.
